We met Lauryn over instagram, and it is safe to say she really spreads good energy. A lover of food, cannabis, clean beauty and (obviously) slow fashion- we knew we'd be friends.
We sent her a disposable camera, the Skylar blouse and asked her to show us her life. She opened up her home and let us intimately in- sharing stories of fire, getting off coffee, and how taking a bath can cure anything. Get to know this soul below.
home town or where do you call home?
Saint Paul, Minnesota is home.
I am a taurus!
how you would describe your style of art and how did you gravitate there?
I think my style is clean and minimal but not harsh. It is soft and graceful. I have always felt obsessive about cleanliness because it's my personality but more recently I have leaned into my "softness". I think the year of 2020 helped me gravitate that way
what is on your bedside table?
my dented Hydroflask, an oil diffuser, Caroline Leaf's "Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess" and a machine that puts stars on the ceiling
what is your favorite medium and why?
I love to cook. Not for other people though - only for myself because I want it to taste exactly to my liking. I love to cook because I make it a big ordeal. I will have my speaker blasting, the windows letting the breeze in, the lights on but dimmed for maximum ambiance and I always cook without a recipe. Cooking is something that reminds me of both my mom and my dad too. They were divorced almost my entire life but I have so many cooking-related memories of them both.
who or what is your inspiration?
Bella Lam is my inspiration. Bella is the owner of a vegan baking mix company, Coconut Whisk and a new cafe, Coconut Whisk Cafe. I work for her but she is also a business mentor for me. She goes after what she wants and she gets it.
I've been off of coffee for more than six months so I love finding latte fixes. I love Four Sigmatic's cacao latte or chai latte mix frothed in homemade nut milk.
when you are feeling stuck, how do you breakup your energy?
When I'm stuck, 99% of the time it is because I am not taking care of myself emotionally, spiritually and physically. Most of the time it comes down to the basics too. I usually need a walk, 15 minutes of breath work or some yoga. Last but not least, a bath. Baths cure everything.
best advice you have ever received?
Take things day by day. If that's too hard, take them hour by hour. If all else fails, take it minute by minute.
what are you listening to these days? will you link your Spotify?
morning or night time?
MORNING! I love to be up early. It feels like there is no one else in the world. I love having the whole day ahead of me. I love the quiet, the sunrise and the overall feeling of new. I also love breakfast more than any meal and I REALLY love a good wake and bake to start the day too.
a quote you live by?
The sun will rise tomorrow! My friend told me this when I got a speeding ticket at 16 and thought the world was legitimately ending. I got it tattooed after I lost my house to a fire in 2017 too. At (almost) 23, I still think about it everyday. Simple but effective.
go to dinner recipe?
Dinner is my least favorite meal of the day. I am more of a breakfast, lunch, second lunch, dessert kind of person. My favorite thing to make for lunch is a big veggie pasta. Just pasta, every veggie in my fridge and loads of spices.
let’s pretend we are all safe from covid, how would you spend your first night?:
I would want everyone I love to be in one spot. I want to hug all the people I love and probably dance and sing with them too. I want to feel like you do at a wedding - like all of the love in the air, but without the outrageous bill or cheesy decorations.
something you are excited about for 2021:
give this beauty a follow @lauryntcox -- & for give her soon-to-launch business @lolosseedbutter - (organic sunflower seed butter company) too!
