what the f*ck is deadstock?

When a clothing company goes to production, they make / purchase a specific amount of fabric with intention to use. Most of the time, they only end up using 80%-90% of what’s made, leaving the left over behind to be thrown in landfills or burned. Deadstock is the fabric that is left behind. The idea behind using deadstock fabric is that we are creating beautiful clothes out of fabric that has already been made, and is no longer desired. This means we work with small yardages of fabric, and once something of ours is sold out, it’s gone forever. So everything we do at Past Life is small batch, limited runs and SLOW fashion.

When it comes to sustainability, there is no clear path or right way to the most sustainable option for fabric. As a small business, we are doing our absolute best to be as sustainable as possible, and right now, we believe using deadstock is the best option.
